al-Munqidh min al-Dalal (Deliverance from Error) is Imam al-Ghazali's spiritual autobiography — among the most translated and studied short works in the entire Islamic canon. The work recounts the author's intellectual and spiritual journey: his early certainty in kalam and falsafa, his crisis when he discovered that rational proof could not produce the certainty he sought, his withdrawal from the Nizamiyya college in Baghdad, his ten-year retreat among the Sufis, and his eventual return to teaching with a transformed understanding of what religious knowledge is.

About The Author

Imam Abu Hamid Muhammad b. Muhammad al-Ghazali (450-505 AH / 1058-1111 CE), Hujjat al-Islam (the Proof of Islam), is among the most influential thinkers in the history of Islam. Born in Tus in Khurasan, he studied under al-Juwayni at Nishapur and rose to teach at the Nizamiyya college in Baghdad before withdrawing into a long spiritual retreat from which he emerged with Ihya Ulum al-Din. His combination of mastery in fiqh, kalam, falsafa, and tasawwuf — and his willingness to subject each to scrutiny in the light of revealed knowledge — set the pattern for later Sunni intellectual life.

"المنقذ من الضلال" سيرةُ الإمام الغزّالي الذاتية الروحية — من أَوْسَع آثار التراث الإسلامي تَرْجَمةً ودراسة. يَرْوي الكتابُ المسيرة الفكرية والروحية للمؤلِّف: يقينُه المبكِّر في الكلام والفلسفة، وأَزْمَتُه حين اكْتَشَف أنّ البرهان العقلي لا يُؤْتي اليقينَ الذي يَنْشُده، واعتزالُه عن النظاميّة، وعزلتُه العَشْر سنوات بين الصوفية، ورجوعُه أَخيراً إلى التعليم بِفَهْمٍ مُحَوَّل لِما هو العلمُ الدينيّ.

عن المؤلف

الإمام أبو حامد الغزالي (٤٥٠-٥٠٥ هـ)، حجّةُ الإسلام، من أعظم مفكِّري الإسلام في كلّ عصر. وُلد بطُوس بخراسان، وتتلمذ على إمام الحرمين الجويني بنيسابور، ودَرَّس بالنظاميّة ببغداد، ثم اعتزل في رياضة روحية طويلة صنَّف بعدها "إحياء علوم الدين".
