About The Book

al-Nazm al-Badi is one of Imam Yusuf al-Nabhani's more elaborate poetic compositions in praise of the Prophet (peace be upon him), showcasing his command of the high-Arabic poetic register and his deep saturation in the canonical sources of Prophetic praise. The ode draws on the established themes of the genre — the noble lineage, the lights that preceded the Prophet's birth, his miraculous biography, his miraj, his intercession, his unique excellences — and arranges them in the elaborate rhetorical patterns (badi') from which the work takes its name.

About The Author

Imam Yusuf b. Ismail al-Nabhani (1265-1350 AH / 1849-1932 CE) was a Palestinian Hanafi judge who served in the courts of Beirut under the late Ottoman empire. Born in Ijzim near Haifa to a family with deep scholarly and Sufi lineage, he received his classical training at al-Azhar in Cairo under masters including Shaykh Ibrahim al-Saqqa and Shaykh Yusuf al-Barqawi. He devoted his enormous literary energy to defending and propagating the traditional Sunni-Sufi heritage in an age of rising reformist challenge — composing more than eighty works in salawat, istighatha, manaqib, theological defense, and Prophetic praise.

"النظم البديع" من أَوْسَع مؤلَّفات الإمام النبهاني الشِّعْرية في مديح النبي ﷺ، يُظْهِر تَمَكُّنَه في النَّظَم العربي العالي وعمقَ تَشَبُّعِه بالمصادر الكلاسيكية للمديح النبوي. تَستمِدّ القصيدةُ من موضوعات الجنس المُقَرَّرة — النَّسَب الشريف، والأنوار التي سَبَقَت مَوْلِدَه، وسيرتُه الإعجازية، ومعراجُه، وشفاعتُه، وخصائصُه الفريدة — وتُرَتِّبُها في الأَنْماط البَلاغية البديعية التي مِنْها اسْتَمَدَّ العملُ اسمَه.

عن المؤلف

الإمام يوسف بن إسماعيل النبهاني (١٢٦٥-١٣٥٠ هـ) قاضٍ حنفيٌّ فلسطيني خَدَم في محاكم بيروت في العهد العثماني المتأخّر. وُلد بإجزِم قرب حيفا في أسرةٍ ذات سلسلة علميّة وصوفية، وتَلَقَّى علمَه الكلاسيكي بالأزهر على شيوخٍ منهم الشيخ إبراهيم السقّا والشيخ يوسف البرقاوي. كرَّس طاقته الأدبية الهائلة للدفاع عن تراث السنّة والتصوّف ولِنَشْره في عصر التحدّيات الإصلاحية، فألَّف ما يَزيد على ثمانين كتاباً في الصلوات والاستغاثة والمناقب والدفاع العقدي ومديح النبي ﷺ.
