About The Book

Mawazin al-Qasirin is Imam Abd al-Wahhab al-Sharani's spiritual treatise for the qasirin — the incomplete or shorter-of-mark wayfarers — addressing those who recognise they have not attained the heights of the path but seek nonetheless to fulfil what is asked of them according to their actual capacity. The work provides graduated 'scales' (mawazin) by which the believer can measure his progress and identify the next achievable step, rather than abandoning the path because of the gap between his state and the lives of the great salihin. A characteristic Shaykh al-Sharani intervention: directly practical, candid about his readers' actual situation, and gentle without lowering the demand of the tradition.

About The Author

Imam Abd al-Wahhab al-Sharani (898-973 AH / 1493-1565 CE) was one of the foremost Egyptian Sufi masters of the late Mamluk and early Ottoman periods. A jurist, hadith scholar, and Sufi shaykh, he founded a zawiya in Cairo that became a major center of Sufi learning.

"موازين القاصرين" رسالةُ الإمام الشعراني الروحية للقاصِرين — الذين يَعْرِفون أنّهم لم يَبْلُغوا عُلى الطريق ومع ذلك يَطْلبون أن يُؤَدُّوا ما يَلْزَمهم على قَدْر طاقتِهم الفِعْليّة. تُقَدِّم الرسالةُ "موازين" مُتَدَرِّجة يَقيس بها المؤمنُ تقدُّمه ويُحَدِّد الخطوةَ التالية المُتاحة، فلا يَتْرك الطريقَ لأَنّ الهُوَّةَ بين حاله وحال كبار الصالحين كبيرة. تَدَخُّلٌ مُمَيِّزٌ للشيخ الشعراني: عَمَليٌّ مباشر، صريحٌ بِشَأن المَوْضِع الواقعي لقرّائه، رفيقٌ بهم دون أن يُنْقِص من مطلب التَّقْليد.

عن المؤلف

الإمام عبد الوهاب الشعراني (٨٩٨-٩٧٣ هـ) من أعرز مشايخ الصوفية المصرية في عصري المماليك المتأخّرة والعثمانية المبكرة. أَسَّس زاويةً بالقاهرة صارت مَنارة للتعليم الصوفي.
