About The Book

Sharh al-Bayquniyya is Imam al-Zurqani's commentary on al-Bayquniyya — the celebrated foundational matn of hadith terminology composed by Shaykh Umar b. Muhammad al-Bayquni (d. 1080 AH) in 34 lines of rajaz. The matn enumerates the principal categories of hadith — sahih, hasan, daif, marfu, mawquf, maqtu, musnad, mursal, munqati, mudallas, shadhdh, munkar, and the rest — defining each in a single verse. The commentary unfolds each definition for the beginning student, illustrates it with examples, and clarifies the relations among categories.

For more than three centuries the Bayquniyya has been the universal first text in mustalah al-hadith for beginning students, and al-Zurqani's commentary is among the most-used companions for it.

About The Author

Imam Muhammad b. Abd al-Baqi al-Zurqani (1055-1122 AH / 1645-1710 CE) was an Egyptian Maliki scholar and master of hadith. Beyond this commentary, his celebrated Sharh al-Mawahib al-Laduniyya — a sustained commentary on al-Qastallani's sira — runs to twelve large volumes and is one of the major commentary works of late Sunni hadith literature.

"شرح البيقونية" للإمام الزرقاني شرحٌ على متن "البيقونية" للشيخ عمر بن محمد البيقوني (ت ١٠٨٠ هـ) في ٣٤ بيتاً من الرَّجَز. تَستوعب المنظومةُ أقسامَ الحديث — صحيح، وحسن، وضعيف، ومرفوع، وموقوف، ومقطوع، ومسند، ومرسل، ومنقطع، ومدلَّس، وشاذّ، ومنكر، وغيرها — في بيتٍ لكلٍّ. ويَفُكُّ الشرحُ كلَّ تعريفٍ للمبتدئ بالأمثلة وبيان العلاقة بين الأقسام.

عن المؤلف

الإمام محمد بن عبد الباقي الزرقاني (١٠٥٥-١١٢٢ هـ) عالمٌ مالكيٌّ مصريٌّ ومُحَدِّث. له بالإضافة إلى هذا الشرح "شرح المواهب اللدنية" على سيرة القسطلاني في اثني عشر مجلداً، من أمّهات شروح السيرة المتأخّرة.
